The equipment need for security camera installation will depend on the type of cameras
1 – Cabling
The cabling is required to both power the cameras and get the video back to the recording device. they typeof cabling will depend on the type of camera. coaxial cabling will be required to analog cameras while ethernet cabling such as cat5 or cat6 will be required for IP cameras. The most common coaxial cabling for analog cameras is RG59 siamese – this cable has the video and power wire jackets glued together to make installation easier nad faster. In some cases RG6 coaxial cabling might be required. If you are using cat5 or cat6 – make sure they are solid copper. In rare instanaces fiber optic cabling might be required.
2 – Connectors
The typical connectore when using coaxial cabling will be BNC. You will want to make sure you use the best you can find as this is a common pint of failure on camera systems. The BNC connects the cabling to the camera on one end and the recorder on the other end. If you are using IP cameras then the connectors will be RJ45 connectors on the camera side and on the recorder or swithc side. If you are using ehternet cabling with your analog cameras with bnc connections then you will need video baluns to make the connections.
3 – Power supply
If you cameras are analog – you will need a power supply for the cameras. Power supplies typically come in 4, 8, 12 and 16 channel formats. You will want the power supply to have enough power per channel to power each camera you will be conneting to the power supply. Your supply house should be able to help you fingure this out. An easy way to do this is to check the amperage your cameras will need when the night vision infrared comes on and make sure your power supply can supply that on each channel. If your cameras are IP you can power the cameras directly with a power adapter, you can power the cameras with a poe swithc or if the recoreder hs poe ports directly from the recorder. In addition to the power supply you will need pig tails to connect the power wire to the camera. make sure you get te right pigtail to make the connectionas there are male and female pigtails
4 – Mounts and junction boxes
Most outdoor camera installation will require mounts and junction boxes. The juction boxes will make it esy for you to hide the wiring and protect the wiring from the weather.
7 – Surge protecors
surge protectors will help keep you system running for a long time. they will protect your system as well as help minimize or eliminate any downtime.
There are some more minor items you might need – but the items listed above are the major ones you will need to get your camera system installed.
